In literary style, it is somewhat too technical to be easily understandable by the amateur student, yet not nearly technical enough to define its terms fully, and thus satisfy the scholar. For example, the term "oral sexual field", with its allied references, is not explained fully enough to be entirely clear to the lay reader.
However, these faults, if such they are, are quite minor in comparison to the very real interest and usefulness of the book as a whole. Most thoughtful readers, who are also familiar with some of the problems of homosexuality, alcoholism, or stammering, will agree that the book provides a very worth-while insight into these conditions, and that the theory itself is deserving of a much more extended treatment. -Robert Gregory
